This year’s Loss Prevention Discount Program is
underway. In February 2008, PMSLIC policyholders
received a brochure about our Loss Prevention Discount
Program. The brochure highlights the continuing medical
education activities that are available as part of the
discount program, and tells physicians how to
participate to earn a discount on their 2009 PMSLIC
premiums.
PMSLIC’s 2008 Loss Prevention Discount Program features
a menu of risk management learning activities, which are
accredited for varying amounts of continuing medical
education credit. Some of the activities are available
in a printed format, and some are being offered online.
Policyholders must order the printed course booklets,
but ordering is not required to do online activities or
the Consult newsletter.
PMSLIC policyholders who complete a total of at least
five CME credit hours from the Loss Prevention Discount
Program menu by October 14, 2008 are eligible for a 5%
discount on their 2009 PMSLIC premiums.
For more detailed information about this program, view
the brochure below or call the Risk Management
Department at 800 492-7898.

PMSLIC's Risk Management team has developed a
comprehensive guide for policyholders that addresses the
most common risk management issues and concerns relevant
to physicians' practices.
The guide is available exclusively online in a PDF
format as a benefit for PMSLIC policyholders. It covers
a wide range of topics including documentation, follow
up, informed consent, medical records and the
physician-patient relationship.
NOTE: To view the Risk Management Resource Guide,
you must have the Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® for viewing
PDF files installed on your computer. The Risk
Management Resource Guide is best viewed with Acrobat®
Reader® version 6.0 or higher. To utilize all the
features of the PDF file, PMSLIC recommends downloading
and installing the most current version of the Acrobat®
Reader® from the
Adobe Web site.
To access the Risk Management Resource Guide, sign in
to the secure area of the Web site using the "sign
in/sign out" link in the top right corner of the page,
go to the Risk Management section, and click on the link
for "Risk Management Resource Guide."
Patient Safety Publication Is Beneficial Adjunct
Resource
The Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority now
publishes a patient safety newsletter, which physicians
can read to earn CME credit toward their licensure
requirement. This newsletter is not part of PMSLIC’s
Loss Prevention Discount Program, but it is a beneficial
adjunct resource. Click below for more information and
for a link to the publication.

Laminated Pocket Cards
In June 2005, PMSLIC Risk Management mailed
policyholders a laminated pocket card giving suggestions
for
communicating unanticipated outcomes.
This followed up the laminated pocket card
from 2004 dealing with dangerous abbreviations and
documentation. PMSLIC policyholders
can order additional quantities of either card here.
